Savszim South Africa today gave Zimbabwe the biggest defeat in Test cricket so far, winning by a huge margin of 328 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.
Chasing a challenging target of 537 runs, Zimbabwe collapsed for 208 runs in his second innings despite a slight return of captain Craig Ervin and all -rounder Wellington Masakadja. The pair added 83 runs for the seventh wicket, but once the partnership was broken, their innings ended soon.
South Africa’s Corbin Bosch, who scored the first century, also performed brilliantly in bowling, he took five wickets, and joined the special club of players who scored a century and five wickets in Tests.
South Africa was in an initial trouble on the first day of 23/3, but the debut-debut Dewald Bravis and Luan-Drais Pritorius made a brilliant comeback. Pritorius played a brilliant innings of 153 runs in his debut match, making the visit to the visiting team. After this, Bosch, in association with the lower order, took the score to 418/9. However, the lack of support from the remaining batting lineup meant that Zimbabwe gave a significant lead of 167 runs.
South Africa in their second innings dropped Zimbabwe out of the match, scoring 369 runs thanks to Vian Mulder’s 147 runs. There was more than two days left in the match, Zimbabwe’s survival hopes were very low – and the situation worsened when fast bowlers were unable to bowl due to Blessing Blessing Mujbani disease. South Africa’s fast bowling attack proved to be very heavy for the weak Zimbabwe’s batting lineup with the support of Bosch and Lungi Ngidi.
The best player of the match was awarded to Luan-Dre Pritorius, who scored a brilliant 153 runs in his debut match. With a stunning win, South Africa fell 1-0 in the series. The second and final test will begin later this week.(agency)
