Former Ireland international player John Muni is returning to Afghanistan’s national team after a six -year gap. On Wednesday, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) announced that Money has been appointed as the new fielding coach of his national team.
Muni, who worked with Afghanistan from 2018 to 2019, was appointed when the post was vacant after Shane McDermot left. McDermot is currently guiding Pakistan’s national cricket team as the fielding coach.
Money has represented Ireland in 91 international matches, including three ICC Cricket World Cups of 2007, 2011 and 2015, and two ICC men T20 World Cups. He has level 3, 2 and 1 coaching certificate from England and Wales Cricket Board.
In addition to working with Afghanistan, Muni has also worked with the West Indies in 2019 and with the women’s team of Ireland from January this year.
The ACB has also appointed Nirmen Thanabalasingam of Australia as its new physiotherapist.
Thanabalasingam has brought a strong educational and business background in physiotherapy and sports science. He received a postgraduate degree in Physiotherapy in 2010, and in 2008 graduated in applied science in exercise and sports science from the University of Sydney. He is an registered physician at the Physiotherapy Board of Australia and an active member of the Australian Physiotherapy Association.
Afghanistan is currently attending a training and preparation camp in Abu Dhabi, where they are preparing for the triangular T20 series, including Pakistan and hosts United Arab Emirates, as well as the men’s T20 Asia Cup 2025.(agency)
