BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia updated, when will the new president be announcedBCCI President Roger Binny has resigned.
New Delhi. Indian Cricket Control Board Secretary Devjit Saikia spoke on uncertainty about the future of the chairman of the board. Roger Binny vacated the post after turning 70 in July. At this time, BCCI vice -president Rajiv Shukla is handling this post in his place till the election of the new president. According to the Constitution of BCCI, any official has to step down after crossing the age of 70 years.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India will organize an annual general meeting (AGM) at the end of September. The next presidential candidate is expected to be discussed in the upcoming AGM. Saikia told ANI, “Very soon, a notice will be issued about the next action. The AGM is to be before September 30. BCCI will follow its constitution which is applicable. According to the Constitution, we have to organize our AGM before the end of September. So this year also we will do our AGM before 30 September. Notice will be issued in one or two days before September 30.”

In June, the report of Binny’s withdrawal from the post came on social media, while vice -president Rajiv Shukla emerged as the biggest contender to replace him. According to sources, Shukla, who is 66 years old next week, will hold the post of president on an interim basis. Sources also indicated that Shukla may stand for the post of president in the upcoming AGM.

However, at that time Shukla dismissed these reports and called them “useless things”. For Shukla, holding the post on an interim basis is a procedural case and nothing more. Shukla told ANI, “These are useless things. When one place is going to be empty, whatever happens after them gets an interim charge. It is a procedural thing.”

Roger was elected as the 36th President of BCCI in October 2022. He replaced former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly and completed his three -year term. While his president, India won the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Apart from this, the Women’s Premier League (WPL) also started.
