Expressing surprise when Kuldeep Yadav was excluded from the first Test against England, Indvseng former wicketkeeper-batsman Farukh Engineer described the Indian spinner as ‘Trump Card’ that should be used in all five matches of the series.
India chose the only spinner as four fast bowlers and veteran all -round Ravindra Jadeja for the first match of the series in Leeds’ headingley.
The engineer (87 years) told PTI on Friday, the first day of the initial Test, “I wanted Kuldeep Yadav to be in the playing XI. He is your ‘Trump Card’ with Jaspreet Bumrah, I choose him. ,
He said, “He is a great bowler, so England batsmen will have trouble playing him. So I would feed him in all five matches. ,
The engineer, who played 46 Test matches for India between 1961 and 1975, also supported the new Test captain Shubman Gill.
He said, “Some people have rejected Shubman saying that he has not scored in England or he cannot score in England due to his technology.” But I disagree with this because he is a great player. ”
He was particularly influenced by Gill’s leadership during the 2025 Indian Premier League season in which the opener brought the Gujarat Titans to the Eliminator.
The engineer said, “Shubman has received this captaincy after IPL. He captained his team very well in the IPL. I felt that he showed restraint and took the right decisions. ” (Language)
