When the Indian team led by Shubman Gill reached England about two months ago, there was not much expectation in the absence of some prominent senior players, but this team not only performed more than just expectations in the five Tests, but also introduced a great blueprint for the future.
Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin were not expecting much from the Indian team due to retirement of Ashwin and the main fast bowler Jaspreet Bumrah being available for only three matches but it was successful in the first examination of this era of change.
In the words of both captains Gill and his rival Ben Stokes, 2–2 is probably a reasonable result after a 45-day tough competition. India lost two matches, first match in Leeds and third Test in Lord’s. India could also win in these matches, but this is the lesson that the young players have got.
The biggest feature of the Indian team was that it did not give up till the end in any match and made a brilliant comeback in two matches. This shows the spirit of the team. This series also proved that the future of the Indian team is in safe hands.
Gill led the highest 754 runs with the help of four centuries in the series and led other players to perform well. Gill, who started his career as an opener, also removed many of India’s concerns by establishing himself at number four in batting order.
Fast bowler Mohammad Siraj emerged as the hero of the series. He was the only fast bowler to play in all five Tests for both teams. He took the final wicket of the series at the Oval and became the highest wicket bowler with 23 wickets.
Siraj took full advantage of not playing Jaspreet Bumrah in two Tests due to the charge management. Like opposition captain Ben Stokes, he contributed to some extra overs to throw some extra overs to maintain pressure.
Bumrah’s fitness will remain questions and his future is also uncertain in the long format. But it is believed that Siraj will play an important role in improving new fast bowlers. The famous Krishna and Akashdeep supported him well.
Ravindra Jadeja made this series memorable for himself, using his experience. The 36 -year -old player scored 516 runs in the series including a century and five half -centuries. KL Rahul was the most trusted batsman in both teams. He presented a spectacular sample of his skills and talent under the difficult situations of England.
Apart from Gill and Jadeja, he was the other Indian batsman to score more than 500 runs including two centuries in the series. Washington Sundar’s restrained performance in the sequence was commendable and he also contributed significantly with his off -spin in Manchester. India adverse to batting until the eighth number and Washington ensured that the team did not have to move from his chosen way.
The adventure performance of Rishabh Pant and Chris Woakes also made the series more interesting. While the first innings in Manchester came out to bat despite fracture to add significant runs in the first innings, Volks descended to bat on the fifth day of the final Test despite a shoulder injury.(Language)
