Shubman under the pressure of serious? Gavaskar said Gill probably wanted to feed Kuldeep, not Shardul

The great batsman Sunil Gavaskar believes that Shubman Gill probably did not have the right to take a final decision in choosing the last XI. He says that this decision should be completely of the captain and no one including the head coach should have an impact on it. The left -handed wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav has sparked a fierce debate over not being selected in the team continuously, especially after a record century in the current fourth Test of Joe Root, where he became the second most run -up player in Test cricket, leaving behind Ricky Ponting. Root now has 13,409 runs and only Sachin Tendulkar (15,291 runs) is ahead of him.

Gavaskar said on Sony Sports, “Finally, it is the captain’s team.”

He further said, “Maybe Shubman did not want Shardul in the team and wanted Kuldeep.”

Kuldeep has been out in the entire Test series so far despite Root out of two limited overs matches in Manchester and Lords in 2018 in 2018.

The general belief is that the head coach Gautam Gambhir has emphasized the bowlers who can contribute with the bat, especially after India was all out at 471 in the next 11 overs despite India scoring 430 runs in the headingley Test.

Gavaskar believed that Kuldeep should have been part of the XI.

He said, “He should have met him in the team. He is the captain. People will talk about him and his captaincy. Therefore, this decision should actually be his. ”

The former Indian captain also believed that internal differences or issues of selection could be deliberately hidden to show that ‘everything is fine’ in the dressing room.

Gavaskar said, “I know that these things may not be revealed to show everything well.” The truth is that the captain is responsible. He will lead the XI. This is a normal thing. ”

Gavaskar said that things were different during his captaincy tenure, when the team was selected completely the captain and there was no concept of the coach as everything was about the manager and assistant managers.

He said, “We did not have coaches. We only used to be the manager or assistant manager of the team. They were people to whom you could go and talk, they used to advise you at lunch, at the end of the day’s game or on the eve of the match. ”

Gavaskar said, “So it is difficult for me to understand the combination of captain and coach. When I was the captain, we did not have any former player. ”

India has so far selected fast bowling all -rounder Shardul in the initial and current fourth Tests, while Nitish Kumar Reddy was part of the XI in the second and third matches. However, his bowling contribution has been minimum.

Shardul has thrown just 27 overs in three innings and took two wickets while Reddy has threw 28 overs in two matches and took two wickets. Shardul has scored one, four and 41 runs, while Reddy played innings of 1, 1, 30 and 13 runs. (Language)
